I made this video for a Flash class I took fall semester. My teacher took all our characters and put them all together into one video. Here are my little guys. I made two funny little purple guys who have an awkward moment while a duck wearing a wig walks past. I like it because it’s silly and cute but also kind of real because everybody has those awkward moments all the time, or at least I know I do.

Our last assignment for Typography was to make an animation featuring type. We were supposed to use Photoshop, not Flash, which made the assignment a bit more difficult because I’m much more familiar with Flash and I think it’s just an easier program to use for animation (because that’s what it’s made for…). Once I started doing it, it wasn’t so bad, though. The basic principles of animation are the same no matter what program you’re using.

I decided to make a holiday-themed animation. Here it is:

I took a Flash class last semester. This was the first assignment, we were just supposed to make a simple Flash animation. I wanted it to have a weird sort of rhythm to the way the objects move in it. The .swf of it loops, but I couldn’t upload it that way.

This was a project we did in Typography class. We created a collage of letters, then selected a small section of that to recreate in Illustrator and add color. We were supposed to have three different versions of it. Here are mine:

Today I bought a really cute owl stuffed animal/pillow but when I was ripping off the tag I accidentally ripped open some of his seams! Now, I’m not very good at sewing but I had a needle and some thread left over from an art project, and I figured whatever I did would look better than a big hole with stuffing coming out.

Here’s the patient:

And here he is all stitched up:

Maybe not the best sewing job in the world, but it does the job (and looks kinda cute too, I think).

Well, I seem to have gotten really far behind with my blog posting. This has been a very busy semester, but it’s over now and I have time to post all my crazy stuff I did/made. I hope to get it all up within the next few days/weeks.

I just wrote my first (and second) ever C++ programs yesterday…and they worked! First try! Woohoo! Truly an exciting day for an aspiring nerd such as myself.

I can’t let it get to my head though, I know it only gets harder from here. Still, I was really nervous about my first assignment and it was a nice surprise to find that it was easier than I thought it would be. I just hope I can keep up with it when it starts to really get hard.

This summer I’m taking two programming classes: C++ and Visual Basic. They are 12 week classes, too, not as short as most summer classes, which I am very glad about. I’ve heard C++ is very difficult to learn so I’m pretty nervous about that class. So far I’m getting it pretty well but I’m just in the beginning stages and haven’t even tried to write my own program yet. Visual Basic on the other hand seems pretty easy and actually kind of fun so far. It’s cool to make something like that and have it actually work. I hope the C++ class goes well because I’m taking another C++ class in the fall that builds on this one. And it’s supposed to be tough…yikes! Oh well, I will try my best to understand the mystery that is C++ (and the slightly less mysterious Visual Basic).

I think this post makes me pretty nerdy.

I made this for the final project in my 3d animation class. I used Blender to create the bug, place the 3d environments (I got those models – like the stuff for the kitchen, bathroom, etc. from this site), and do the animation. I rendered it in sections and put it all together with the music in iMovie. The music is “Bacteria” by Jonathan Coulton.

I had a bit of trouble with the part where the camera pans, it looks kind of weird but kind of cool at the same time.

Our last assignment for Illustration class was to choose (or create) a children’s story and make two illustrations for it. I chose the story Jonathan the Fastest Snail in the Meadow, which is a very cute story that can be found here. There is also a longer version of the story with lots of British slang and it is extremely cute especially if read with a British accent.

I used Photoshop and my tablet for the drawings. Here are some of the characters from the story:

Jonathan the Snail. The Beetle Boys wrote "SWOT" on his shell, which is British slang and basically means nerd.

Robbit the Rabbit. He's Jonathan's friend in the story.
